The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Augustana College invites applications for a full-time appointment in physics/engineering beginning with the 2010-2011 academic year.  Duties will include developing new classes in engineering design and statics, developing an engineering design lab, advising students, forging contacts with local industry, recruiting students and teaching undergraduate physics courses at all levels. A PhD or master’s degree in engineering, physics or a related field along with experience in engineering or industry is desirable. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching in a liberal arts environment and be capable of incorporating the latest instructional methods into their teaching.

The department is housed in a science building that opened in 1998.  Facilities include a scanning electron microscope, an x-ray diffractometer, a 400 MHz high-field NMR, an ultra-fast and non-linear optics laboratory, a planetarium and observatory, well-equipped teaching laboratories, and a machine shop.
